A Yellow PU Raincoat

It is easy to buy a raincoat, but it can be difficult to buy a suitable raincoat. What do PVC and PU raincoats mean? What does breathable raincoat mean? Which criteria should I use to choose a raincoat? These are the question you are confused about. You will find a guide below that will make it easier for you to choose the right raincoat for your specific needs.

Raincoat type

PVC raincoat

It is a rubber raincoat, which looks 100% waterproof. But remember, no fabric can be 100% waterproof. PVC is the thickest fabric and has the highest water resistance. It can withstand hydrostatic pressure between 15-20,000 mm, so it is generally considered to be 100% waterproof.

PU raincoat

There is a PU (polyurethane) rubber surface, which means that clothes have a higher static head. The higher the static head of the rain gear, the more water it can block. Polyester/PU is thinner and stretchable, so it feels more comfortable. PU/Polyester is slightly breathable, so it is usually more comfortable than PVC raincoats.

Breathable raincoat

It is made of polyester and is very breathable, but under normal circumstances, its hydrostatic head is not particularly high. If you first value the comfort of a raincoat, we recommend that you use a breathable raincoat to let your body breathe through the raincoat. Breathable raincoats and pants can range from waterproof to waterproof, which is defined by the declared hydrostatic head of the garment.

Air permeability is measured by MVP = moisture permeability. MVP indicates how much water can be transported per unit m²/sq per 24 hours. 5,000 MVP means that 5 liters of water vapor per square meter can be transported every 24 hours. The higher the number, the more comfortable it is to wear.

Waterproof standard of raincoat

The hydrostatic head shows the waterproof performance of the raincoat. The figure stated by the hydrostatic head, for example, 5,000, describes the amount of water in millimeters, which 1 square centimeter on the rain jacket or trousers can keep out per hour before the water breaks through the fabric.

2.000 to 5.000

When the raincoat is listed as having a hydrostatic head between 2.000 and 5.000 mm, it is usually a PU raincoat or a breathable raincoat. At this level, raincoats are suitable for daily use by all family members.

5.000 to 20.000

PU raincoats are suitable for workers or farmers who want to stay dry all day, while still emphasizing high comfort. Our raincoat has a hydrostatic head of 5,000 to 20,000 mm, which is suitable for the need to stay dry in the rain for a long time. In this case, the ability to move easily is also essential.

20.000+

There is a saying that a raincoat can never be 100% waterproof, but if you choose a raincoat with a hydrostatic head exceeding 20,000 mm, you can safely maintain it even in the most extreme weather and working conditions you can imagine Dry. PVC raincoats are suitable for industrial use or daily life at sea. These clothes must be able to withstand the arduous working environment that the sea and fishermen are exposed to every day, and ensure that you stay dry even after hours in the water.
